Walmer Detention Ponds - Port Elizabeth
The suburb of Walmer and surrounding areas in Port Elizabeth is plagued by severe flooding when it rains. Flooding leads to what is called “ponding” in these areas.
To address this problem, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality embarked upon Walmer Detention Ponds and stormwater drainage project.
Techni Civils was appointed the main contractor for this project.
7 Stormwater detention ponds are being constructed as well as channels rerouting storm water into the sea. Gabion Baskets and Reno mattresses are incorporated into this new and improved system.
Their application will mainly be but will not be limited to the inlets and outlets of the ponds as well as overland drainage channels.
On-site Gabion Installation Training, all Gabion Baskets, Reno Mattresses and Geotextiles were supplied by P&P Plastics and Civils Pty Ltd, Port Elizabeth.
